Q: What is the shelf life of bulk herbs? What is the best way to store them?
A: Shelf life varies from one herb to another. A powdered herb will lose its properties much faster than a whole or cut herb. Those with volatile oils like peppermint will lose their freshness much sooner than those without the oils. Roots have the longest shelf life as they are much denser than say flowers and leaves. Most dried herbs last from one to two years. The best way to store them is in a cool dark place preferably in a sealed glass container.

Q: What are the differences between “pesticides free”, “certified organic”, and “grown without pesticides or chemicals?”
A: “Pesticides free” means that no chemical pesticides have been used during growth; chemical fertilizers may have been used. “Certified Organic”, products have been certified to be grown organically by the United States Department of Agriculture or an approved agency. “Grown without pesticides or chemicals?”, means that the grower has not paid the fee or been through an inspection for organic certification but claims to follow the best management practices of Organic growers.

A: Many Herbs grow in the wild under somewhat harsh conditions however herbs like well drained soil, at least seven hours of sunlight, and depending upon the region where the herb originated either moist or dry soil.
